Hassan bin Abdul Karim
Hassan bin Abdul Karim is a Malaysian politician and lawyer born on 17 October 1951. He has served as the Member of Parliament for Pasir Gudang since May 2018. A graduate of Universiti Malaya and a lawyer by profession, he began his political career in 1978 with Parti Sosialis Rakyat Malaysia (later Parti Rakyat Malaysia), where he rose to become its youth chief, secretary-general, and later president from April 2005 until his resignation in November 2009. He subsequently re-joined the People's Justice Party (PKR) in November 2009. Within PKR, he served as the Johor state chairman from December 2018 to July 2019. He was also appointed Chairman of the Federal-State Relations Select Committee from December 2018 to November 2022. Hassan successfully defended his Pasir Gudang seat in both the 2018 and 2022 general elections. He was previously charged with sedition in 2015 for statements made on Twitter but was granted a full acquittal in May 2019.
